Industrial and Commercial Wood Processing – ACC Solution
Durable protection for the most demanding applications
Chromated copper arsenate (ACC) treatment is a wood preservation solution used for pressure treatment in the industrial and agricultural sectors. This proven process helps protect wood from fungal decay and insect damage, including termites, ensuring exceptional durability in harsh conditions.
Treatment reserved for non-residential uses
Prior to 2004, CCA-treated wood was commonly used in residential projects, including decks, fences, and exterior structures. However, due to concerns about the risk of exposure to arsenic, the residential use of this type of wood has been banned in Quebec since January 1, 2004.
As of that date, CCA-treated lumber is no longer available for the residential market. It is strictly reserved for industrial and agricultural applications.
Patio Design Inc. never uses CCA-treated wood for its projects. We favor safe, modern materials that comply with current standards for residential outdoor landscaping.
What does CCA-treated wood look like?
CCA-treated wood is usually pale green when new, but it can take on a natural shade over time. If your deck or fence was built before 2004, it is most likely that it is made of CCA-treated wood. Today, this product is banned for all residential use.
Common Applications of CCA-Treated Wood
However, this type of processing remains an essential reference for several specialized applications:
- Foundation piles – increased robustness in wetlands
- Road infrastructure – longevity in the face of climate cycles
- Marine uses (salt water) – corrosion resistance in saline environments
- Permanent timber foundations – long-term stability
- Agricultural poles, bars and lumber – reliability in the field
